Lots of RSS Feeds for Law

How can you find weblogs and RSS feeds related to law? You might start with the section of The Virtual Chase’s Legal Research Guide entitled RSS News Feeds for Law. RSS, or rich site summary, is simply a method for delivering current information. You will find both blog and RSS/XML addresses here.

Google adds Email News Alerts

Google has added a new feature that allows you to do an advanced search on their news and then have matching results emailed to you daily or as news breaks. The Google News Alerts tool is in beta at http://www.google.com/newsalerts

The advanced search page on Google News provides a number of ways to fine tune a search to eliminate unwanted results. You can incorporate these techniques in your Google news alert settings by selecting the conditions you want on the Google News advanced search page, then clicking the “Google Search” button. When the results page appears, copy the text that appears in the search box on that page and paste it into the box on the Google News Alerts home page labeled “News search.”

I’m currently using the following (without quotes) for one of my alerts, and it has proved an interesting way to monitor campus conflict news. My search terms “campus conflict OR dispute OR mediation OR conciliation location:usa”

Check it out…

Free Full-Text Articles at FindArticles.com

While many folks in higher education are benefiting from full-text library resources available electronically, access is usually restricted and not always convenient. A free, but ad-sponsored alternative is FindArticles.com. The site provides a large archive of published articles that you can search and view online for free. Constantly updated, it contains articles dating back to 1998 from more than 300 magazines and journals.

You will find articles on a range of topics, including business, health, society, entertainment, sports and more. Unlike other online collections, each of the hundreds of thousands of articles in FindArticles can be read in its entirety and printed at no cost. Tip: using the print view reduces the number of ads and makes reading the article easier (less screens to page through).

Our friends at CRInfo have thoughtfully created a page of preset search links into FindArticles.com and other online news services for folks in a hurry.

FindArticles is a content-distribution partnership between LookSmart, which provides the search infrastructure, and the Gale Group, which provides the published editorial content.
