Teachers.TV Videos on Restorative Justice and Mediation in Schools

Teachers TV logo Teachers.tv is a service out of the United Kingdom that provides a variety of helpful resources for teachers. Our readers might be particularly interested in the two part series that explores Restorative Justice issues in schools. You can start with Restorative Justice in Action 1 and find the link to the second part of the series in the “related videos” section. As described, the first RJ video looks at:
- The impact restorative justice can have in the classroom environment
- Focusing less on instant punishment and more on encouraging children to think through the consequences of their behaviour
- The use of restorative justice in a series of incidents involving bad behaviour

Also of interest is a video looking at the implementation of a peer mediation program in a school. The 15-minute program looks at a mediation program that has been running for a while, checking in on some refresher training and watching students in action. It gives a sense of what running a program actually feels like in a school.
