Davis Projects for Peace

While it is probably too late to get a proposal together for this year (the deadline is March 31, 2010), I was really impressed with the student-initiated peace and service projects that have been supported by the Davis Projects for Peace initiative over the last three years. Students at more than 90 campuses are encouraged to develop a summer peacework project that can receive $10,000 in support funds. Take a look at the view books to see some of the exciting results.

Here’s a brief description of the initiative:
“In its fourth year, Davis Projects for Peace, is an invitation to undergraduates at the American colleges and universities in the Davis United World College Scholars Program to design grassroots projects that they will implement during the summer of 2010. The projects judged to be the most promising and do-able will be funded at $10,000 each. The objective is to encourage and support today’s motivated youth to create and tryout their own ideas for building peace.”
