CMHE Report Relocates
to WSU Department
of Communication
Since it's inception, the Conflict Management in Higher Education Report and it's companion project the Conflict Management in Higher Education Resource Center (www.campus-adr.org) have been housed within the College of Urban Labor and Metropolitan Affairs (CULMA) at Wayne State University in Detroit. In March of 2004 the University Provost announced her intention to close CULMA. After many on and off-campus meetings and much consternation, on June 8, 2005 the Wayne State University Board of Governors voted unanimously to dissolve CULMA and redistribute all departments, centers, and degree programs, to other divisions of the university.
As a result of this decision, the CMHE Report and the FIPSE clearinghouse were moved, along with CULMA's Master of Arts in Dispute Resolution Program, to a new home in the Department of Communication within the College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts. As the dissolution process unfolded we felt that the Department of Communication was clearly our best option of the various possibilities and we are quite pleased to have been successful in our negotiations to relocate there.
Since August we have been enjoying interactions with our new departmental colleagues in Journalism, Media Arts and Studies and Speech Communication and we look forward to a very productive time going forward. We will clearly miss CULMA and it's dedicated urban mission, but life goes on and so do we. Conflict and change can be good, right? We hope and expect so.
