Roommate problems
This comment submitted by on 8/5/02.
I have been having a problem with my roommate for the past few weeks. I have not spoken to my roommate about the problem yet, and since she is on vacation until the start of the semester, the conversation will have to wait a bit. But, I would like some advice for when I do talk to her.The problem is this: I think my roommate stole my credit card. I did cancel the number and request a new card, but I really want to know if she was the person who stole the card. I feel weird asking her about it, as I do not want to sound accusatory, but I want to know the truth. Any advice for how to approach her?

- My roommate for past year is excessive late or non payment on the rent and utilitys. My names on lease ,so the landlord comes down on me .I'm responsible for it, not my so called friend.I'm trying to evict this person.I've already gave the 3 day notice , last month. The month he didn't pay.But this month he gave a money order to my Landlord and gave me a 30 day notice verbal. What if he doesn't leave ,WHAT SHOULD I DO?????

Did he/she make any purchases?

- Do you know if she made any purchases using your card? It seems that you do not know, in which case you deserve to have your card stolen.
go back and live with your parents.
Get more info on use of card from bank?

- I'm thinking you might also see if you can get more info from your credit card company about the locations (if any) where the card was used after it "disappeared". Perhaps this would give you another way to start the talk with your roommate, ie does she/he know anybody who goes to this or that bar or store, or if it is a card order from a specific phone number, you could ask about that. I agree it is tough...Good luck!
Tough problem

- That sounds like a tough situation. I would explain to your roommate what happened and tell her how frustrated and upset the situation makes you. I would not accuse her or demand an explanation, as this could make your living arrangement quite tense. I would just see her response, and if there is none, drop the issue unless it happens again.
