Advisory Board Meets, Formalizes Membership

Advisors
to the Conflict Management in Higher Education
Resource Center gathered in Detroit April 8-11
to work on a set of initial guidelines for practice
in higher education (see
related news item in this issue), and to discuss
the future direction of the resource center and
clearinghouse.
The
project, moving past the halfway point of its
3-year FIPSE grant, launched its new website (www.campus-adr.org)
in mid-February, and is working toward having
it's full feature set online in time for the beginning
of the academic year this Fall. The advisory group
jumped right in and participated in a website
usability testing process conducted by the project's
internal evaluation team.
The
gathered advisors, representing a broad spectrum
of the higher education conflict resolution community,
also worked together to establish clear guidelines
for the functioning of the board, and to lay out
the initial approach to terms for board membership.
It was agreed that members would serve 2-year
(potentially renewable) terms that were staggered,
so that not all members terms would be ending
at the same time. A subset of the assembled group
has accepted formal invitations to serve on the
board during the 2001/2002-2002/2003 (academic
years) term, while others will serve in a more
informal capacity, or perhaps to join the board
this Fall when the second round of board members
are added.
